Wrapping Paper Chute: Zoom Treats Down a Homemade Slide

Looking for a quick and fun activity while the wrapping paper is already out?  Children can safely “deliver” treats to their furry friends by sending snacks down a homemade slide. It’s easy to set up, hands-on, and guaranteed to spark giggles all around.

‍WHAT YOU NEED

• Roll of wrapping paper 
• Elevated platform like a dining table, toddler tower, or couch. 
• Kibble, Cheerios, or treats
• A dog bed to catch treats
• Optional: a snuffle mat or non-slip slow feeder bowl placed on top of the dog bed
• Optional: clothing with pockets or a bowl so kids can keep treat supplies handy

HOW TO PLAY

‍Step 1: Position the Materials

Have the child positioned on their chosen elevated platform, holding the wrapping paper tube angled down towards the floor over, but not touching, the dog bed. The treats should be close by for easy access. Your dog can be waiting on the floor or on the bed.

Step 2: Release the treats 

Release treats one by one through the top of the tube, letting them slide all the way down to the bed at the bottom.

If you have 2 or more kids, you can have separate tube stations for each. For a little science experiment, show them how various size and shape kibble or treats and the wrapping paper tube angel, affect the speed with which the food slides down.

PRO TIP

• If you have a large dog, safely find a high enough platform for the child so the chute is able to start from above. 

‍

• Use discretion when managing distance between dog and child during activities involving food delivery. Not a suitable activity for dogs that are protective over their food and/or bed. 

‍

Insights from Dominika: My children were almost 5 years old when we did it for the first time, and they were on top of our dining table. It was extra fun for them to be on the table, and I was supervising the whole time. Our favorite combination was a snuffle mat on the dog bed.
